Why wasn't there a Drone Overwatch at Trump's event in PA???

It's 2024. The most incredible time to be alive in the history of mankind.

Technology is advancing at light speed, and the well-known phrase "There's an App for that" could also be "There's a Tech for that".

With all of that being said, there's a question that has been bothering me since the assassination attempt on Donald Trump.

"Why the hell wasn't there a Drone Overwatch in place prior to and during his speech?!?!"

Maybe there was. Who knows. But the bottom line, as far as anyone knows, the shooter still wasn't found before he was able to pull his trigger. So either way, there is still an issue that should be addressed.  

Think about it. a Drone with thermal imaging at 400' AGL would have detected a human like shape wearing dark clothing on top of a light colored roof. With Thermal Imaging his clothing wouldn't even matter. You probably wouldn't have even needed Thermal Imaging. He was outside of the crowd, lying in a prone position, making a distinct silhouette against a blank background.

I imagine one argument may be "We don't like the noise that comes from a drone."

Whatever. Yes, I can hear my M30T at 400' pretty well. Gotcha.

However, this wasn't just a county fair, this was a former President of the United States campaigning for the Presidential Election. I'm pretty damn sure that the Secret Service could have gotten a waiver to go above 400' AGL from the FAA...

So noise wouldn't be a factor. What else 'ya got? Oh, you don't like Chinese Drones? (Don't get me started on that) 

OK, fine. There are other options.

Most of the focus is on Donald Trump, but what about the other participants who died or were injured? That could have been prevented, in my opinion, by the use of an UAS and a trained pilot.

I just cannot understand why we have tech available to prevent these kinds of horrendous acts from being played out and we're not using it properly. In my mind, there's no excuse. Period.

I really hope they do better for the rest of the campaigns of all the candidates. In every tragedy there is a lesson, and I can only hope that we've all learned from this one.
